Installation Guide: Planning for Soil Pipes

When installing a soil pipe system, follow these steps in line with BS EN 1610:1998 standards:

1. Preparation:

   • Begin assembling the new soil stack from the base, working upwards.
   • Mark the positions of pipe brackets before starting. Drill and fix the screws at these positions to prepare for pipe installation.

2. Bracket Placement:

   • Fix pipe or socket brackets with the following spacing:
     • A maximum of 2 meters for vertical runs.
     • A maximum of 1 meter for horizontal runs.

3. Allow for Expansion:

   • Leave a 10mm gap inside each fitting to allow for pipe expansion during warmer weather. This ensures the pipes remain straight and prevents warping.
   • Soil fittings with spigot ends should be inserted into sockets up to the depth mark engraved on the spigot. This depth accounts for the required expansion gap.

4. Expansion Joints:

   • Install expansion joints every 4 meters to accommodate temperature changes.

5. Sealant Application:

   • Use silicone lubricant on all seals to make jointing easier and ensure a watertight connection.
